Allen Davis was born in Brockton, Mass., on July 4, 1929, and he grew up in Brooklyn, where his father, Louis, was a successful businessman. In interviews he often spoke of learning toughness on the city streets, but he came from a relatively affluent home and at least once confessed to a reporter: “I don’t want this in the story. I wish you wouldn’t print it. You follow me? But when I got out of public school, I won the American Legion medal for all-around kid.”

Back on this day, September 22, 1976, Carlie's Angels premiered on ABC-TV. The critics hated it and before anyone knew what happened Carlie's Angels became a worldwide hit and made rock-stars out of the show stars: Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith.

The Angels were everywhere on lunch boxes, posters, magazine covers, toy shelves! They even ended up on the cover of TIME magazine. Carlie's Angels was the hottest thing since good old American apple pie.

Carlie's Angels was big but the break out star was Farrah with her brunt orange swimsuit poster made her a phenomenon and a 70s icon over night.
